I am currently on my flight home from Coronado CA where I spent 4 days with my teammates at the Todd Durkin Mastermind Annual Retreat. Reflecting on how much these events impact me as a coach, wife, mother, friend, and my passion to inspire others to be at their best is truly magical. WOW, this group of elite fitness coaches, business owners, authors, equipment designers, and global motivational speakers are not only inspirational, but unbelievably giving and collaborative. Each and every member generously offers up their struggles, solutions, and thoughts to enhance the rest. The power of many is endless with this crew! There is tremendous value in becoming unplugged from the daily grind of running a business, and from our roles as coaches, leaders, mothers, spouses and as high-performing individuals. To stay healthy, it is imperative to take the time to slow down and audit our habits, and recharge ourselves from the inside out! We cannot reach our full potential without making time for what Wayne Cotton calls ” Mellow Yellow Time”. That means time for YOU and what really fires you up with energy and excitement. It also means getting back to balance and reigniting what makes our souls sing. Did your parents ever tell you not to let the gas go below 1/2 a tank? Maybe it was 1/4 tank, but that is pushing it! Using that as an analogy, the vehicle is you and the gas tank is your physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Are you overwhelmed, battling fatigue, feeling anxious or depressed? Wake up! You cannot spend every moment at Superhero status! What fuels your tank? What is your happy place? What can be a recovery zone for you - inside & out? Do you even block out time for self-care in your calendar? It is impossible to keep grinding in 5th gear and never let off the gas pedal. At some point, your vehicle has to pull over for gas. And it’s important to never let your tank get below 1/2 full. Here are some ideas for you to fill your tank: * Stop and breathe - observe a sunrise or sunset. * Go outside for a workout of any kind. Walk, Run, Hike, bike ride, take your dog for a walk, etc. * Meditate - close your eyes and just focus on your breathing * Shut down and meet your spouse, family member, friend, or colleague for coffee & conversation, meal …..etc. * Get a massage * Read * Journal * Soak in a hot bath surrounded by candles…maybe even a glass of wine? (No judgement here. :) ) * Go for a therapy session These are just simple daily suggestions that can help you relax and reset. Booking a vacation and/or destination to intentionally focus on your dreams, mission, vision, and purpose is something that we also MUST gift ourselves from time to time. Even a high performance sports car cannot run forever without routine checkups! You must change the oil and fluids regularly so it performs at its best. Mellow Yellow time is the way for us to perform at our best and maintain a dynamic mindset. Our success is dependent on us taking care of ourselves. Continue to lead and live your best life! Who is your favorite singer?
